abstract = "The use of geotechnologies has assisted in the environmental
monitoring enabling the survey of the main impacts and helping in
the adoption of mitigating measures. The current study were
monitored sedimentary processes at the mouths of the
Canan{\'e}ia-Ilha Comprida-Iguape Coastal System. Landsat TM-5
satellite images from the years 1987, 1991, 1993, 1997, 2005 and
2010 were used. The images were digitally processed in SPRING. A
separation of land and water was carried out on satellite images,
from the mouths of the Ribeira de Iguape River and the Icapara
mouth, in order to delimit the coastlines. They were compared
multitemporally in order to analyze spatio-temporal evolution. For
each year non-linear edge detection filter Sobel was applied. The
mouths of the study areas presented intense sedimentary dynamics
during the analyzed period. Bathymetric surveys conducted in the
study area indicated greater depths located in the stretches where
the channels are narrower and in meander areas of the lagoon
channels, confirming the importance of these data for the
understanding of the erosive processes in the region. The
monitoring of the mouths of coastal systems should be considered
as a necessary measure because they are extremely dynamic areas in
terms of sedimentary processes often subjected to inadequate human
occupation. From the present study, it is suggested the
application of the filter for edge detection in the processing of
satellite images to monitor the dynamics of the mouths of coastal
systems by managers of Conservation Units and other actors
involved in the management of the Brazilian coast.",
